I know I just posted a really positive blog about my group's project, but felt compelled to post this after I read Amneh's blog. This is in response to her disappointment with no one from class showing up to their project but I decided to post a new blog in hopes that more of you would read it!

Amneh,

Well, I live an hour and a half away and commute to school so it was not financially possible for me to add an additional day to my driving expense. Otherwise I would have been there. I am sorry I could not attend because you tackled such an important topic.

If it was possible for me to attend or do something to help another group's project, I did it. I donated dresses, wore red (and was surprised more of you did not, I mean how hard is that to do), let one group video me, and went to the PSA about image, all while working diligently on my group's project, tending to my mother who had surgery, doing projects and work for my other classes, and raising three young children.

I, like you, was disappointed that other class members did not try hard enough to show support for other groups. I am not familiar with the other WS class, but to my knowledge we only had ONE girl from any of the other groups show up to our self defense class. I do not know her name, but I thank her for taking time to come to a FREE event. All it required was time and a willingness to learn.

Even though we had a great turnout, I was highly disappointed with how apathetic our class members were. By the lack of support to fellow classmates and their projects, it shows that most of us were only looking out for ourselves and our grades. The whole purpose of this project was to encourage us, women of all ages, to get involved with our community, our school, and the feminist movement. Maybe Dr. K should make that a requirement when, and if, she makes this type of assignment in the future.

I'll be completely honest, a lot of the projects were scheduled during my work schedule - so I could not attend a lot of them, but I promoted the projects HARD in my classes, I even had my professors telling their other classes about them. Josh Curtain sent out a campus wide email with the dates and times of a lot of the projects - but it also goes to show just how "excited" this campus really is about current topics.

If the groups would have had a greek name behind them, there would have been tons of people to come. And each of us know that - what GSW needs is someone to call the entire campus community out. There's something about our campus that just feels so --- lost. I just wish people would do something without having a party behind it.

I believe that our November project month will show the "higher" officials here at GSW that students without a greek organization can do thing productive. I'm quite positive that there will be good things to come from all this.
