Last Saturday, November 15 was Group 7's (Sharon, Aisha, Amneh, and D'ete) Women's Spotlight Health Seminar/Yard Sale. It was very informative. The topics were hypertension, heart disease and breast cancer. Most of our participants had a personal story to share about their own experiences and issues with health. Our speakers were Marnie Cagle and Valerie Grimes--both Registered Nurses, as well as Billie Gatewood, Founder of the Pink Pals--a support group for women diagnosed with breast cancer. They all really did a great job. We learned some startling facts and figures concerning women's health. I think all of us left that day saying, "I am going to start taking care of my health". That was the goal--to get our participants thinking proactively about their health. We also served "healthy" refreshments to further reinforce our purpose. All in all, it went well!

I really enjoyed the time spent with my group #7. We started out REALLY early on Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. ugh!! with our yard sale. The Women's Health spotlight was very beneficial to the attendees. I do believe they left there with a new attitude concerning their health and changes that can be made that will be advantageous to their future.
I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and a part of this seminar was to educate women about breast cancer. I can not stress enough that women should get yearly mammograms and just "check your boobies" on occasion. Early detection can save your life!
I want to take this time to thank my group for supporting me during this trying time in my life. They are truly a blessing!
I'm finally on!I finally learned how to work this little blogging board! I have to say that I was not so gong-ho about starting this project, but I have REALLY enjoyed it!Although getting up at 5:15am was a challenge on a Saturday morning, I think we all had a really good time.We learned so much about each other & have created a great bond!THE SEMINAR WENT GREAT TO ME!Like my other group members said, we ALL learned so much.I am actually thinking about perhaps getting with Mrs Gatewood to find out about starting a group for women with Lupus. Thanks Group 7 for the laughs, the serious moments, and working well together!
